Corylus avellana "Contorta" (Family: Betulaceae) Common name: Corkscrew hazel, Corkscrew hazelnut, Harry Lauder's walkingstick, contorted filbert
Corylus avellana "Contorta" is a hazel cultivar. The common name corkscrew hazel suggest twisted and spiraling twigs, braches and leavs. The deciduous shrub prefers well-drained soil in full sun or part shade.
Hazelnuts aren't pretty much the same as almonds?! Then.... I guess the trees look like those we have here (except those curly branches we haven't here - and, by the way, are amazing!) just because they belong to the same species! :)
Salvador Dali... Mistakes are almost always of a sacred nature. Never try to correct them - On the contrary: rationalize them, understand them thoroughly - After that, it will be possible for you to sublimate them ...

You Canadians have very strange looking cherry trees! What kind of a tree is this? The swirly branches are awesome.
